Here’s a new poster for the Cairngorms National Park, created by one of our blog readers (thank you) following the news (here) that yet another young eagle has been illegally killed, this time poisoned to death on a grouse moor in this so-called National Park.
You’ll be seeing a lot more of this image very shortly….watch this space.
Thank you to everyone who has written to the First Minister and Environment Cabinet Secretary expressing your disgust and urging immediate action following this latest poisoning incident. The public’s reaction has been phenomenal.
It’s not too late to add your voice. Here are the email addresses you’ll need:
To email Nicola Sturgeon, please use this address: firstminister@gov.scot
To email Roseanna Cunningham, please use this address: CabSecECCLR@gov.scot
Thank you.
Terrific. That will really get the message across!!!
Brilliiant! Please can you make this artwork freely available so that everyone has the opportunity to place this wherever they deem appropriate!
Watch this space, Richard….
I am guessing you have no control over the adverts on your posts !!??
There is a disgusting one for “wild Alaskan salmon” on this one !
Presumably the just add the adverts, and it is out of your control …
Heigh ho (I can easily ignore adverts … always do…) Sarah
Strange. I don’t get any ads nor is there an empty space for ads on the page.
Do you envisage a crowdfund campaign to help get the message out to the public ?
Very appropriate poster – well done to the person responsible for it. RPUK you are right, it is only a ‘so called’ National Park.
‘watch this space’ – indeed I will. Can a similar poster be done for Nidderdale!!!!
I agree, One for Nidderdale too, sitting neatly in the middle of ‘God’s own country’ I’m just wondering how the almighty feels about the wildlife criminality at play in his own back yard……?
Excellent poster. Hope it can used in ad campaign.
Thats brilliant, imagine the impact if we could get it on bill boards all over the land.
A very sad and shocking poster.
Nevertheless it is an excellent and imaginative initiative with a lot of potential.
Cairngorm National Park (established in 2003 by the Scottish Government) is now a national scandal due to wildlife crime (not being addressed by the Scottish Government).
Excellent. I can see that being very useful
This is well put together BUT should include:
WHERE CRIMINALS RUN FREE
AND BREAK THE LAW WITH IMPUNITY
Sorry but the poster isn’t obvious enough. We all know what it refers to but many people won’t have a clue
I agree with you David
Sometimes subtlety works, it makes the observer want to find out what is behind the message. I think it works very well in this case.
I go along with your thinking, Mike.
Sometimes less is more.
It’s a fantastic piece of artwork but I wish that the image of the officer was an officer in full police uniform … then the penny might drop for those who don’t know what its all alluding to.
Could you set background music to the new poster, I was thinking of the covid 19 lockdown raptor persecution parody “the bodies keep piling up”
It amazes me how people can go into politics with the intention of making a change, get good money for doing the job then sit back and do nothing, for Cunningham this is the second time in the same role, the paperwork relating to the organised criminal activities blighting the uplands will probably be on her desk still untouched
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I’m gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust
Well done to the creator. I have wished there was something like this for years. Can one be done of each crime scene from now on, please? The next (inevitable) time there is one for my part of the world I will be printing them off, laminating them and tacking them to a few prominent fence posts. Some keepers will see them as a badge of honour, however it might shame a few mincey AONB officials. It will also let tourists and visitors know that the “last wilderness” they are told they are rambling in is fact an open-air slaughterhouse for protected raptors – once they are down off the moors out the way having their evening meal in the pub.
perhaps I have not looked closely enough but I have not seen any mention of this or any other raptor pers. on what should be, hopefully the fantastic initiative that is Cairngorms Connect; the website or the SM accounts. Surely they should have something to say to support the public outrage.
Excellent image. Tested the CEO and asked him to resign. How many raptors have been killed in the “park” under his watch?!
Another good image would be to juxtapose an image of a wolf in Yellowstone National Park next to an image of a red grouse in the Cairngorms Grouse, I mean, National Park..
His shiny bonce detracts from the eagle – can they photoshop his baldy heid and tone it down a bit? Just sayin…
Excellent.
I am sure something similar depicting 5 dead buzzards, a goshawk , and a sinister looking figure doing the killing -would be most appropriate for the North Yorks Moors national park.
I have no doubt, the public believe that all wildlife within national parks is protected and wildlife crime does not occur.
If the public realised what was actually happening to birds of prey in their national parks, the outrage could be so immense that the government would be shamed to act.
So these posters may be very useful in raising public awareness, especially if coupled with Operation Owl.
What is important is that the raptor persecution is kept within the media, and within public consciousness so that it doesn’t simply go away with the passage of time, as no doubt our politicians hope.
My thinking is – ‘one at a time’. Spend the most on the first, rather than divide any crowdfund, then go forward and elsewhere with the experience and perhaps with the benefit of publicity.
Good plan sog – one powerful, replicated image is a good idea.
