Yesterday saw the launch of a new petition from Wild Justice calling for a ban on driven grouse shooting.
At 10,000 signatures the Government has to issue a response.
At 100,000 signatures the petition will be considered for a debate in Westminster Hall.
All the previous petitions on this subject happened under a Conservative Government. How will the new Labour Government respond?
Let’s find out!

thank you for this.
persistence pays. And none better than yours!
Always thought it would end up with this
Well done Wild Justice
Why just driven Red Grouse shooting – why not extend such a ban to driven Pheasant and Red-legged-Grey Partridge shooting, or at the very least apply licensing as per grouse shoots, subject to loopholes in the system being dealt with
May I assume that if a ban on driven grouse shooting is achieved nobody will object to my taking a pointer onto the hill and shooting the occasional grouse for supper?
Personally, I would object: if you are allowed to do so then anyone should be allowed to do so, which would lead back to the demand that has led to the illegal persecution of wildlife. If you are desperate to eat grouse (or pheasant or partridge) then farm it and send it to the abattoir for slaughter and processing. Or is it that you just want to be able to shoot living things to fulfil some sad demand in your psyche?
Speaking for myself, before answering anybody on that question I would need more information (a) can / will you pick your shots carefully and kill them? i.e. not wound, (b) will you / your family / your guests, etc genuinely enjoy eating them? And (c) exactly what “management” do you propose to undertake on the land / permission you shoot over in order to give you enough grouse to shoot?
Petition signed, first time I’ve ever done so. The Owners/ Agents have shown recently that they refuse to reign in their own greed and permit even a measured approach to change, so there really is no other option left. Good luck Wild Justice!
