Hunt Saboteurs stop three grouse shoots in Yorkshire

As they’ve done in previous years, the Hunt Saboteurs were out in force yesterday on the Inglorious 12th and managed to stop three grouse shoots in Yorkshire.

A large group of saboteurs, travelling from many different regions, converged on the moors to disrupt the shoots – you can read about what they got up to here.

UPDATE 15th August 2023: Hunt Saboteurs stop another grouse shoot in Yorkshire (here).

  1. Well done to all my good friends in the Hunt Sabs. Saving lives from the despicable abominations involved in this so called sport. DIRECT ACTION WORKS!!!

  2. Protesting peacefully is legitimate, violent protests and physical attacks are not: see report in Sunday Telegraph today “Hunt saboteur jailed”.
Having been on the opposite side of the fence from Hunt Sabs, I can attest to their propensity to excessive violence on too many occasions to detail, on several occasions against me, my wife and my children. They are no friends of mine Mr Petrie. Their motives may be noble (only to them) but their actions belie this. Wearing balaclavas is in itself cowardly. I know of no other group that does this, including Extinction Rebellion and its disparate offshoots – at least they have nothing to hide and thus earn a certain grudging respect.

    1. And how many times has the Torygraph carried accounts of the many cases of sabs and monitors being seriously injured at the hands of hunt-supporting thugs?

Well done to all the sabs, up and down the country, who risk their safety by standing up to the vermin who abuse our wildlife.

    2. I appreciate that your saying that you’ve had personal experience of violence (I’m sorry bt I struggle to believe it, sorry) however I think that you’ll find that it is completely the other way around when it comes to the violence. It is the hunts and their supporters who inflict horrendous violence towards saboteurs and also inflict damage/vandalism to their vehicles as it is well documented however this rarely results in convictions towards hunt staff/supporters, friends in high places? At least 3 saboteurs have even been killed by hunt members using their vehicles the fact that they weren’t convicted is both beyond belief and sickening. The reason that they wear balaclavas is to avoid being identified out of fear of hunt members attacking them at their own homes and damaging their vehicles. Also well documented are hunt members turning up at their homes wielding pick axe handles and the likes, many arson attacks on their vehicles, tyres slashed and dead animals being strewn around the property. Is this why you call the wearing of balaclavas cowardly because you can’t get to them xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

      1. Are calling me a liar Mr Wood? And for the record I do not condone violence from either side and on many occasions have told hunt supporters to walk away when attacked. The attack on my wife was especially bad and included her horse being pelted with hard objects. So much for animal lovers!

        1. Want to get rid of Hunt Sabs? Simple: stop illegal fox hunting and killing other animals for fun. Job done.

          1. No, I’m not going as far as to call you a liar sorry. I just found it hard given the reputations of both sides that the hunt sabs would instigate violence sorry.

    3. Funny thing is once technology got to a stage where anyone could film anything and then upload to the internet there’s an absolute dearth of any evidence showing hunt sabs being thugs, but an endless stream of videos showing sabs being the victims of hunt violence.

    4. Well said, Mr. Wood.
It’s not cowardice but a sensible precaution to take when engaged in an assymetrical conflict. It is the hunters who are invariably breaking the law and if the authorities charged with enforcing it did their job then there would be no need for the Sabs.

    5. Rubbish, the sabs have to defend themselves against the violent thugs engaging in blood sports who don’t like to be prevented from carrying out their vile activities. The sabs do not engage in violence otherwise. You are defaming them in what you say.

  3. If the “saboteurs” were on private property, they should be arrested and charged with criminal damage. The shooters should sue them for whatever, loss of income, loss of amenity, sort of thing.
Across the country minority groups, feeling self-righteous, are making life unpleasant for people going about their normal lives, normal business.
I am sick of it. In Scotland the Green Party MSPs are requiring the government to introduce lunatic laws in exchange for their support of the government in votes etc.
Do I think breeding creatures should be bred almost solely for sport? I do not. Having lived in the Borders for many years, I’ve seen pheasants being driven onto guns simply by looking out of the kitchen window.
Just driving around I’ve had to stop the car, get out and shoo groups of pheasants off the road. They are stupid and slow. Shooting them for sport is contemptible. (Sport is hunting lions armed only with a Boy Scout knife.)
The answer is maybe to have the government pass laws to afford the same legal protection to game birds as is afforded to other birds such as seagulls. Go over the heads of estate owners and recreational business managers. An end to grouse and pheasant shooting in one fell stroke.
Bombard MPs with letters, turn up at their surgeries. Send licensed game dealers letters indicating your disapproval (some grouse do find their way onto plates).
Alternative uses for grouse moors: wildlife parks, deer, goats, lynx, leopards, sheep.

  4. It’s really great to see young people really putting themselves in harms way to stop these barbaric practices. You are all amazing.

  5. these sabs should stay in there inner city slums and leave us country people to have our legitimate sport

    1. Hi Erick, Having lived most of my life on remote farms, now living in a rural village, I consider myself to be a country person, however you as a country person are NOT as myself. Clearly with that statement your chain has been rattled.

    2. Haven’t you heard of capital letters or punctuation marks in “the countryside”?

Well done, Erick for reinforcing the public’s image of the barely-literate “country yokel”!

    3. Erick, what evidence do you have that the “sabs” live in inner city slums? I suspect many are fully aware of what you “country people” do for fun and this is what motivates them.

    4. “Sport” there is nothing like a sport in these horrendous activities. This site seems to be attracting the sick and twisted types who engage in blood sports and troll those who are against them. Please note your days are numbered and you can crawl back to your country estates obtained by theft and murder in the past.

  6. The country as a whole is fed up with the militant actions of protesters, strikers, sabs and extintion rebellion. I’m lucky to take the mail and express for my input. I feel very balanced.
Seriously though, it’s a shame the old traditions are being erased by modernity.
Bring back steam trains, morris minors and proper beer.
    Steve.

  7. Well done sabs great stuff!! Well Eric I’ve lived in the countryside 25 years
Legitimate sport that’s why the hunts go out cubbing at 7am on a morning to avoid being seen very up front that will be happening soon the only people who break the law are you sneaky small-minded violent cruel underhand people shooting birds of prey at unmentionable hours everything they do is barbaric crawl back under your stone !!!

  8. The actions of the Hunt Sabs pleased me immensely and I was even happier when I read that they had stopped two shoots in my local area. Absolutely brilliant! Well done Sabs and I wish you further success during this shooting season.
