From an RSPB press release issued 6 March 2020:
On 20 January 2020, eyewitnesses saw a buzzard being shot from a light-coloured [blue] van near Shelsley Beauchamp, Worcestershire. The bird was brought to Vale Wildlife Centre but due to an irreparable broken wing the bird had to put the bird to sleep.
Unfortunately no further details are provided.
If anyone has any information about this wildlife crime please contact West Mercia Police on 101 or fill in the RSPB’s confidential online reporting form here
Why have they waited so long to ask for information (again)?
There is very scant information on this incident. In fact there is so little that it is hard to comment from a wildlife persecution perspective.
Had I spotted someone fire a gun from a car I would have phoned 999 immediately. Perhaps that did happen for all we know.
I don’t understand how that the event, as described, can happen without there being a damned rapid hullabaloo. Someone firing a gun from a car is likely to be a thoroughly deranged type looking for anything to shoot at.
