Death threat letter to Chris Packham is menacing and disturbing

This is the death threat letter that was sent to Chris Packham on Monday:

There’s no ambiguity here. The menacing and disturbing content reveals a clear intent.

If you recognise the handwriting or know the identity of the person/people who sent it, please contact Hampshire Police immediately.

There’s an article about Chris’s reaction to these violent threats in today’s Mirror (here).

    1. No remotely sensible person can ignore a threat like that. Carry on with the campaign by all means, but never ignore such threats.
Publishing the letter is a good move.

      1. Of course you don’t ignore it, these people and it is they who use the plural, should be locked up.
I only found out recently that one of Mark’s fairly regular commentators, don’t know if i can mention his name, was locked up for, what i can gather, less threatening but persistent communications.
This person was so thick they wrote it by hand even though they wrote it in capitals. Also has a weak grasp of language. ‘THATS ALL WHAT MATTERS’ and punctuation absent so we aren’t looking for an educated person here.

  1. The reaction to Chris says everything you need to know about the people who like kill wildlife. Violence is a way of life for them whether it’s against animals or humans. It doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ve had death threats and threats against my family from the hunting community, I have a police sig mark on my property and have had to install security cameras.

Welcome to the world of fighting for wildlife.

  2. Just as you and your Wild Justice colleagues stand up for nature we will stand up for you Chris,.
And we will stand up to the likes of the real “nasty pieces of work” that support the writer’s views.

  3. That is so awful, I don’t really know what else to say except it makes me love Chris even more that he says he’s standing his ground!
And just something I noticed from the handwriting, although it’s not “in line” on the left hand side it’s obviously been written against a ruler (or perhaps a block of wood 😉) so its been done by someone, perhaps a bit particular in their ways? I’m not familiar with death threats but it seems a very unique style of writing so hopefully someone will recognise it AND report it.

    1. If you’re right, that was the way in the Merchant Navy, but straight across the page. Or so I seem to remember.

  4. I wonder if the nasties would act the same if Sir David Attenborough was in Chris’s place?

  5. And this person will own a firearms licence. Time to start to lobby our MPs to make getting a shotgun licence harder. To own a firearm you should be held to a higher standard of responsibility and demeanour that the rest of the population.

  6. That is just disgusting. Whoever is behind it is clearly not right in the head. Poor Chris Packham, how can anybody hate him as much as that. I know not everybody likes him or agrees with everything he says but to threaten a person, any person in such a way is just the lowest of the low.

Hope they get caught, they are clearly not safe to be on our streets, they should be in padded cells with no chance of being let out.

  7. So sad that that a pathetic inadequate individual can hide behind an anonymous letter like this. Most sensible people accept differing views and opinions and respect those that make them, whether we agree or not. Individuals who stoop to such communication deserve nothing but derision and hopefully, punishment. The more we can all support Mr Packham and his colleagues in Wild Justice the better!

  8. At some stage this p.o.s .must have applied to join one of the organisations that over-reacted to NE’s knee jerk response to the Wild Justice challenge so the police could, if they were bothered (and they damned well should be), get a handwriting expert to go through their records or better still those of police forces’ gun licence applications/renewals.

  9. I hope Chris Packham hands this letter over to the police, who should through forensic testing be able to identify the perpetrator. Criminal offences will then hopefully follow, and then hopefully once the perpetrator is identified and convicted, the media can pursue the underlying story and expose all those concerned, which may help demonstrate to the public that within our countryside dwell some vile, evil people who place no value on the life of our wildlife or environment. Hopefully public anger will then drive our politicians to pass laws to properly protect our environment and wildlife, and rid our society from these backward minded bullies and the landowners who support them.

  10. He(?) was doing so well until the last sentence. ‘All what matters’! Really!

Isn’t it generally held that it’s the ones who don’t write letters you have to worry about? I’m sure Chris has done the right thing, exposing this to public gaze.

  11. These inadequates are being manipulated, radicalised in modern parlance whilst I agree they are very dangerous it is the the puppet masters ( individuals and organisations)behind the scenes that stoking this level of hatred, and if they wished to could reverse it . They need to be called to account.

  12. This all comes with the territory I’m afraid.
Chris well knows this and of course it puts further pressure on the unsustainable game shooting industry which is useful in this fight.
Seeing the safety catch slipped on the gun that is in your face is also quite unnerving but not unusual in the old days of sabbing.
Some of the terrier men carried handguns back then.
They were revolver style pistols that fired .410 cartridges, totally illegal and would have almost decapitated a human at point blank range.

    Welcome to the fight.

The more the backlash from the driven game industry, the more we are winning !

    Keep up the pressure !

  13. Maybe it’s time to adjust the law regarding possessing a firearms certificate where anyone applying for a firearms certificate of any description had their DNA put on record. Death threats are common in today’s if you are a high profile campaigner regardless of the cause. Premeditated offences of this nature .. rather than emotional, vocal outbursts … should be met with long prison sentences. This might put a spoke in the wheels who manifest the bravery that comes when they believe they are out of range of having to face up to their actions.

  14. I think Chris was right to show this letter as these morons probably thought he would be scared to publicise it. The worrying thing is that a gun is not the only weapon that can be used, knife etc. The really scary thing is if these cowards mean what they say then arson would be the worst attack on your home as your family are also at risk.

    1. Council staff would use that abbreviation. It always used to be the standard way of phrasing an invoice for repair of street furniture after a road traffic accident

  15. Interesting writing style. All in caps and it has been written along the edge of a flat surface e.g. a ruler. That’s very unusual and should help identify the culprit.

    1. Unfortunately Peter, using a ruler to write is not uncommon where I live. When I was working quite a few of my workmates used one all the time. Mind you, I don’t think anyone out here in the Hebs would be angry enough to write something like that. On the mainland however, it is a very different matter, having looked at the FB pages of the ‘Usual Suspects’, even though it could be argued that it is none of their business.

  16. I think that the writing style and the use of handwriting ( as opposed to a typed letter) suggests that the culprit was at the end of the queue when grey matter was being handed out.
Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty toward animals rarely stop there. Many of them move on to their fellow humans.
