Scottish Labour conference: raptor persecution and grouse moor reform

Revive, the coalition for grouse moor reform, is hosting a fringe event at the Scottish Labour conference tomorrow:

A fantastic opportunity for bringing illegal raptor persecution and the urgent need for grouse moor reform to the attention of politicians and party members and supporters.

Many thanks to Claudia Beamish MSP for hosting this fringe event.

For further information about the Revive Coalition please visit its website here, watch a couple of short introductory videos here, and have a listen to this short podcast interview between Charlie Moores (Lush producer) and Max Wiszniewski (Revive Campain Manager) recorded in February 2019.

  1. Wonderful news, and thank you so much to Claudia, Ruth, Max and Craig for carrying the baton into the public den!. Good luck folks, we wish you success – to put it mildly!

  2. I wish you every success in your endeavours. It saddens me to see the way our wonderful wildlife is treated by the bigots who kill birds in the name of sport. It’s particularly abhorrent when you hear of the cases of the mindless slaughter of Golden Eagles, White-tailed Eagles, Hen Harriers….. – the list seems endless!

  3. Great to hear that publicity will be given to the topic of raptor persecution in the UK countryside. Land issues too are an important part in all of this. Look forward to hearing how the meeting went.

  4. A 5th of Scotland is managed for Grouse shooting.
That equates to 8m hectares (20m acres).
    Complete nonsense.
The lies pedalled by both sides of the issue is why this will never be resolved.

    1. The estimates vary from 12 to 18%, even at the lower end that’s a massive area of land for a ‘hobby’ associated with widescale environmental degradation and legal/illegal wildlife persecution, plus it compromises virtually every other activity that could take place there…..so it’s no better for rural jobs than it is for wildlife. Not lies, just fundamental truths some seem incapable of accepting.

    2. Atholl Estates is 145,000 acres. Anders Holch Povlsen owns 221,000 acres and the Duke of Buccleuch holds 217,000 acres. So three estates alone are well over half a million acres.

      1. It’s best to stick to facts. I don’t know anything about the Duke of B land, but Atholl includes farmland, woodland, montane, besides any land that might be managed for grouse shooting. None of Povlson’s land in the Cairngorn NP is managed for grouse shooting. A little walked up grouse shooting takes place but essentially hie his trying to rewind the area. You can check out Wildlands website for details on this.

  5. Excellent podcast with Charlie and Max. Just having a presence at a national conference is a big step up in fighting the grouse moors and their propaganda, I have no doubt the fringe meeting will be a cracker and feel sorry for the delegates that will miss it. Hope Ruth, Max and Craig all have great fun as well as a productive event.
