Suffolk Police are investigating the shooting of a young male peregrine in Ipswich.
The bird, one of four to have fledged this year from the Mill Tower at Ipswich Waterfront, was found alive but in an emaciated condition at the weekend. He was taken to Riversbrook Veterinary Practice where an x-ray revealed he had been shot in the leg. Unfortunately he didn’t survive.

I’m convinced this is widespread – I’ve sighted very few peregrines this year (in an area where they have increased in the last 10 years or so). I’m not sure that the problem is local – I suspect they just aren’t returning from wintering on moorland in the same numbers.
Hope Suffolk police do their job for once…
Time to ban the casual ownership of all and any firearms.
How do you define “casual ownership” and how would you implement such a ban?
There is no such thing as “casual ownership” of firearms in the UK. There are legally held and licensed firearms and shotguns, and illegally held ones!!
What on earth are we coming to in this country. What mindless morons there are that could do that to a magnificent bird. Find them. Prosecute them. Jail them.
