How blatant does it have to be for the CPS to take it to court? Or are they all too busy knocking off early in the Crown Office to go for a spot of shooting on a freebie?
If their eyesight is so bad they couldn’t see that, there is no way they should be able to keep their shotgun licence. Clearly visible for some distance in the LH pic. Perhaps we ought to go and stand in various places on the moor and see how long it takes the keeper to come and investigate? Could be there for months!
This must surely qualify as the most risible report to date. Is the CPS manned by blind people? A gamekeeper who lies (not very cleverly) and is evidently incapable of spotting a high visibility jacket he placed on site himself, nor remember where – though he could remember where a Peregrine nest site was situated. What a coincidence he chose that very spot to place his scarecrow!!! (what a surprise that it wasn’t successful). And apparently, despite being a paid gamekeeper in charge of a Grouse Moor, he doesn’t know that Grouse don’t have second broods in July! If they did, presumably his clients would be informed to be careful not to disturb the nests on the (in)glorious 12th August, or tread on flightless chicks? Just what will the CPS take as evidence for a prosecution? I do hope the slapped wrist of the (un-named) landowner doesn’t sting too much! But well done and thanks to PC Jack, the NE worker and NRG representative. They mkust feel VERY frustrated.
As a licenced gun owner I would expect myself to be challenged by the firearms licence department if my eyesight was so bad I could not see a man sized object in a fluorescent yellow coat – and quite rightly so as I would be a serious hazard. If this man has admitted to being unable to see a human sized object in fluorescent clothing then clearly he is unsafe to have a gun licence.
