Henry’s arrived in the Cairngorms National Park.
You might think he’d be safe here, what with it being a National Park and all that.
You’d be wrong.
Almost 45% of the CNP is covered by ‘managed moorland’ and raptor persecution here has been so prominent that last year it led to the Convenor of the Cairngorms National Park Authority declaring that “it threatens to undermine the reputation of the National Park as a high quality tourist destination” (see here and then here).
I despair of Henry ever finding a safe haven. Maybe under my dining table.
Tell Henry to call in for a visit!! He is certainly right to be worried, it is an absolute disgrace that he can’t be safe in a National Park, but he is almost as likely to be shot or poisoned here as anywhere. As I’ve said before, birds of pray should be an everyday sight throughout the Cairngorms, however you are very lucky if you see any. Buzzards used to be fairly common but no more.
Killing estates such as grouse moors should be totally banned from A National Park.
It’s great to see that Henry is getting about, it’s also great to see that raptor crimes have dropped so low that you need Henry to help fill the gaps left in the news feed,
Ah don’t you worry, plenty of crimes against raptors to report…..just waiting for Police Scotland to announce them….or not.
