Norfolk businessman puts up £5K reward to catch raptor persecutors

Mervyn Lambert NorfolkLast month somebody stole a clutch of eggs from a Marsh harrier nest in Norfolk (see here). Around the same time, eggs were also stolen from a Kestrel’s nest and a wagtail’s nest. Norfolk Constabulary are linking the three thefts.

In response, local businessman Mervyn Lambert is offering a £5,000 reward for information, adding to the other £2,000 already available (£1K from the Eastern Daily Press and £1K from the Hawk & Owl Trust).

However, Mr Lambert isn’t limiting his offer to these three crimes. “I’ll give £5,000 for any information, not only about stealing birds’ eggs but poisoning, trapping and shooting protected birds“.

Good stuff.

Further details in the Eastern Daily Press here.

  1. Well done this gentleman. What has happened to the £28.000? reward that I and many others contributed to with regard to the Black Isle Red Kite massacre? As it appears Police Scotland aren’t willing or able to find the culprit or culprits, has this money been donated to the RSPB yet?

        1. Very surprised that I haven’t, as yet, received any reply from Stuart Housden. Maybe you will have more luck RPS.

    1. Maybe the rewards recently offered by the RSPB for info re the loss of harriers at Bowland might be where some of it is meant to go, if anybody ever claims it that is, it would be nice to be asked if this is how we would like it to be used first though. There should be a fair amount of interest accrued on the £28.000 by now, hope it’s not being squandered !!!

  2. Awesome work Mr Lambert. Perhaps if all of us on here were to chuck a few quid a month into a “Grass up the persecutors” pot, then we might be onto something.
