Langholm hen harrier ‘Annie’ is down

One of last year’s young hen harriers from Langholm is missing in action.

‘Annie’ was satellite-tagged on Langholm Moor last summer, along with a young male called Sid.

Sid ‘disappeared’ a few months later in North Yorkshire in September 2014 (see here).

Annie ‘disappeared’ a few weeks ago in March. The last signal from her sat tag showed she was in an area of South Lanarkshire. Hmm.

  1. Same old, same old. A couple of Hen Harrier shaped drones would catch alot of wildlife criminals on these grouse moors

  2. Driving along the A9 today I actually saw a buzzard, unfortunately it was near Moy, so most likely wont be seen again!

These countryside guardians wont be happy until all hen harriers go the same way as Annie and Sid.

  3. its that time of year when gamekeepers have little to do except mither wildlife that might have a miniscule effect on the number of birds that they might present to their employers in the coming season, you cant change the mindset of these people by legal means, the only way in my opinion is to play them at their own game, mass tresspass on the worst estate every saturday during the shooting season, target the worst estate and other estates every so often, Scotland and Northern England are as bad as Malta and Cyprus, not in numbers killed but by the fact that we actually preach to these countries (as a G8 nation) while turning a blind eye to what is happening in our own!

  4. Awful that yet another Hen Harrier has been killed. We have to change minds in the UK and Cyprus and Malta! It is not about preaching but doing. All these and other countries must enforce their own laws. That is a good place to start.
