Allen Lambert, the mass poisoning gamekeeper from Stody Estate, Norfolk, will be sentenced today following his convictions last month.
What sort of sentence does a convicted mass poisoner deserve? He was found guilty of poisoning 10 buzzards and 1 sparrowhawk. He was found guilty of the illegal storage and use of some of the most dangerous pesticides in the world. He was found guilty of having equipment capable of being used to prepare poisoned baits. He was found guilty of having nine dead buzzards in his possession.
Let’s hope the magistrate views this case with the seriousness it deserves.

If it’s not custodial, does anyone know what restictions could be placed on raising game, keeping animals and having firearms? (have a personal interest here due to where I live…)
If any case deserves a custodial sentence this is it. Anything less, will just prove that the authorities don’t take wildlife crime as serious as the general public would wish.
JAIL, JAIL, JAIL. We hope British justice proves us wrong and he is banged up, even just to send out a message to other criminal gamekeepers that Government are taking raptor persecution seriously, but we fear this criminal will be given a miserly fine and told that he is a very naughty man and not to do it again. God knows how many other wild animals he might have slaughtered over the years before he was caught, and evidence is more than clear that this gamekeeper is not the exception. As PR discovered just the other day, we have FULL TIME wildlife crime officers inviting gamekeepers (The suspects) to help them search for reported dead raptors on their own shooting estates. What on earth is going on?
The court will follow their guidelines on sentencing, which will probably say that this type of offence doesnt warrant a jail sentence because hes never been caught [and convicted] before.Despite the fact that it defies belief that someone just wakes up one day, [allegedly] decides to use poison baits and knows how to go about killing 10 buzzards.A court just sees whats put in front of it…no previous, no relevance. This is when all the lies and evasion put out by the shooting press and media come home to roost. Wait till you hear the mitigation [excuses] put forward by his lawyer!..In cases like this, the Law remains an ass…just as it was in Dickens’ time.
