An excellent new podcast is now available on the illegal persecution of satellite-tagged eagles in Scotland.
Charlie Moores (a producer at LUSH) interviews Ian Thomson (RSPB Scotland Head of Investigations) about the suspicious disappearance of satellite-tagged golden eagles and white-tailed eagles in areas intensively managed for driven grouse shooting, and how the raptor killers’ tactics have changed since satellite tags became more commonly used.

It is an absolute disgrace that the main media outlets, the BBC being to the fore, have not shown any interest in the truth in this matter. When I get home, I will complain officially to the BBC.

Great interview, thankyou…just a shame to hear that Mr Thomson is not entirely against grouse shooting, given the negative effect it has upon the natural world…..
He talked about the licensing of ALL game bird shooting. I haven’t heard anyone in the RSPB say that before.
What a great bloke Ian is. So sorry that so many good people have to deal directly with raptor persecution, the people who carry it out and the lies and smears from them.
Sounds interesting, is there a transcript to read instead? I have problems with listening to things like podcasts (and radio shows) so find reading transcripts much easier. It is why I always watch tv with the subtitles on too.
What’s the latest on the “Fred” investigation? Did the phone mast data ultimately confirm natural mortality, or is the case still open?
The investigation into Fred’s disappearance is ongoing, just like all the other 45+ cases of sat-tagged eagles who have disappeared in suspicious circumstances.
