WCO Josh Marshall at it again – two egg collectors convicted in Devon

Our favourite Police Wildlife Crime Officer, PC Josh Marshall, has been at it again. Thanks to his efforts, along with the RSPB and the NWCU, two egg collectors have today been convicted at Newton Abbot magistrates court after a two-year operation. Read the story here and story with photos here.

Well done Josh Marshall, RSPB & NWCU for getting this case to court. Excellent work.

  1. Yes indeed, very well done Josh, but am I missing something here? If someone gets fined £3000 + £50 costs in 1999, yet 13 years later the fine is just £1000 + £200 costs for the same offence??? Where on earth are we going in our attempts to counteract wildlife crimes? What is wrong with magistrates these days?

    1. The justiciary are part of the problem and undermine the efforts of police officers like Josh.

However, no amount of fining will stop these egg collectors. What they do is very like Obsessive Compulsory Behavious Disorder.

  2. Many thanks Josh, RSPB and NWCU from all of us who care about the welfare of our British wildlife. But as Tony points out, the sentence, once again, doesn’t appear to make much sense!

  3. Do these people actually see themselves as bird lovers? As twitchers collect sightings do they feel it’s acceptable to collect eggs…strange.
