Update on ‘missing’ or dead satellite-tagged raptors: hen harrier, Scottish Borders

Regular readers will know all about the Langholm hen harrier chick, ‘Blae’, who was alive for just a few short weeks. She was found dead ‘about’ 11th September 2012 in the Scottish Borders (see here).

It’s now 20th October and still there’s no word about the location where she was found dead, nor the circumstances of her demise.

It’s coming up to six weeks – just how long does it take to do a post-mortem? We understand that Rugs-R-Us are doing a roaring trade in Langholm High Street…

  1. And it is now four weks since the last update. Why, with a publicly funded project, is the public being kept in the dark? If these employees can’t keep the public up-to-date with one or two posts per week, then they should be sacked and made to reimburse the public purse. If they know what happened and are being told to keep quiet about it, then they are no better than the gamekeepers that killed the birds.

It’s now approaching two months since the first Hen Harrier was killed and we haven’t heard anything and more than a month since the second killing and we still don’t know if this bird was retrieved or not.

It would appear that there is more sweeping going on here than on an Olympic curling rink.
