Following an anonymous complaint about alleged posioning offences on the Stanhope Estate, Peebleshire, police obtained a search warrant for a gamekeeper’s house. During the search they found Cymag gas, .275 ammunition and his shotguns were not secured inside a gun cabinet.
Following an appearance at Peebles Sheriff Court, the 31 year old keeper (name removed under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974) had his shotgun and firearms licence revoked. However, the court did not fine him or make him pay any costs, he was just admonished (given advice!) by the Sheriff.

All this despite the finding by the police of 8 years worth of diaries in his [the keeper’s] house – detailing poisoning, trapping and shooting of protected species on several Scottish estates.The landowners concerned were interviewed about the diary entries.
The Fiscal service refused to enter the diaries as evidence in his case, quoting a lack of corroboration with actual incidents.
The diaries detailed literally hundreds of crimes and showed the extent of damage being caused by just one criminal gamekeeper.
Such diaries have been retrieved in several cases against gamekeepers.
What keepers in there right mind would keep a diary of what they had poisoned . That’s like a thief writing down every bank he has robbed . A easy way to get convicted. I think you have issues with keepera Dave and a one way set mind frame on wildlife . You need to understand and see it from both sides of the river. Before you accuse and judge anyone or any profession.
Interesting question. But not half as interesting as this one: what keepers in their right mind would poison protected species?

I’m sure Dave doesn’t need anyone to fight his battles, but considering that this site is called Raptor Persecution Scotland and the vast majority of crimes against raptors in Scotland (and the UK as a whole) are carried out by gamekeepers, then perhaps you should remove your blinkers and look at the bigger picture before judging anyone.
As for the diaries issue, they are kept to show the landowner they are doing their job (or for bragging rights). Eggers will also keep detailed notes on their hauls, as do birdwatchers that keep personal lists.
