The following statement and photo was posted on social media on 19 January 2025:
GWENT POLICE: Another busy weekend for the rural crime team that included responding to a report of 2 dead birds of prey. Found in suspicious circumstances, they have been recovered for autopsy via the Wildlife Investigation Team (WIIS).
No further details available at the moment.

How uninformative can you get? What a waste of ink time and money.
I disagree. It sends a message to the public that Gwent Police will investigate if raptors are found dead in suspicious circumstances.
As the Police don’t yet know the cause of death, there’s not a lot else they can say at this stage. I’d rather they posted what they did than say nothing at all.
You mean they may actually do their job I somehow have very little hope of that.
Your comment doesn’t make any sense. Gwent Police are already doing their job by responding to the report, collecting the bodies and submitting them to WIIS!
“What a waste of ink time and money”
Uh? That appears to be a remarkable response from Gwent Police – posting on social media on Sunday about the ‘busy weekend’ collecting evidence for autopsy.
Damned (by you) if they do, and damned if they don’t!
What else can the Police say before scientists have even had a look?
It’s just so sad we just have to await results of autopsy I won’t hold my breath that it was natural causes not 2. Just wondered what area was it a grouse moor or just a random place ??
